Thoughtful design = Engaging Programming + Responsible Resource Use + Quality Craftsmanship

The colloquial sayings, “you only live once” and “think outside the box” are ingrained in our societal rhetoric. While many will reference these sentiments, too few put them into practice.

I’m someone who has.

My path to become a designer has been unusual, though I like to think that’s what’s led me to have a solid understanding of my professional purpose. I studied art during my undergraduate years, learning the sculptural properties of metalworking and the artistic nuances that help elevate designs. After college, my art path was unclear, so I elected to pursue a business route professionally, and worked in various roles at an e-commerce company in the DC Metro area. It was during these crucial years in the business arena that I realized while I was invigorated by the fast pace of a medium-sized company, I missed the creativity of the arts.

So I took a chance. Instead of continuing to grow with the company, I elected to move 2500 miles and begin a four year journey to obtain my MFA in interior design. It wasn’t the more stable choice of the two, but I felt I needed to try to get back to my artistic roots. It was a challenging four years. I had to learn to reinvent myself and absorb complex ideas. A thesis project can be seen as the end of one period of exploration and research. While there is truth to that, I consider it the end of the graduate journey, but only the beginning of my design education.

My creative approach is multifaceted, and ever-evolving. I like to blend a sense of the imagined with an awareness of existing design realities. I enjoy creating physical designs that blur the lines between art and interior design. I consider all the pieces of design when formulating a concept and plan to ensure that no detail goes unexamined. Whether it’s figuring out how to highlight existing architectural elements or sourcing materials and furniture to update a space, all facets of design are considered. Every space has an opportunity to provide an experience. Let’s design a great one.
